Steven De Castro

Steven De Castro graduated from Oberlin College in 1990.  Before enrolling in law school, he worked as a paralegal for the New York Legal Aid Society, was active in several human rights organizations, and served as a Human Rights Commissioner for the City of Jersey City.  In 1998, he graduated from Rutgers School of Law at Newark, where he served as Editor-in Chief of the Rutgers Law Record

As an attorney qualified to practice in the state and federal courts, Mr. De Castro has a small office in the Wall Street area, specializing in tenant's rights and civil litigation. He was admitted to practice in the New York and New Jersey Courts in 1999.

Housing Court Advisory Council 

Mr. De Castro recently served for four years on the Housing Court Advisory Council, which is responsible for screening candidates for housing court judgeship. The Council is also responsible for reviewing the reappointment of housing court judges.

Independent Supreme Court Screening Panel

Mr. De Castro served as the Panel Administrator of the Independent Supreme Court Screening Panel of the New York County Democratic Party. In this role, he supervised the confidential review of candidates seeking nomination for State Supreme Court Judge.

Mr. De Castro is currently Chairman of the Board of Kinding Sindaw, a Filipino dance performance group.

Mr. De Castro is an arbitrator for the small claims court, former Vice President of the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and a former board member of Village Independent Democrats (a democratic party club in Greenwich Village).
