Is Your Apartment
Rent Stabilized?
Rent stabilized tenants receive remarkable benefits compared
to other rental tenants. The two biggest benefits are that your rent can
only go up by a certain percentage every one or two years, and you are
guaranteed perpetual renewal of your lease while the rent stabilization
law is in existence (in contrast, regular tenants have their tenancies
terminated at the end of their leases).
In general, according to the Rent Guidelines Board, stabilized
BUILDINGS
All landlords are required to register their rent stabilized
buildings with Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR). Therefore,
if your building is listed below, your building is registered as rent
stabilized. (NOTE: it is possible that your building should be rent stabilized,
but the landlord failed to register it. If that is the case, it would
not appear in the listings.)
